Brain cancer survivor sets air speed record on July 4 | Cancer Kick

Cahokia, IL (KSDK) ? An O?Fallon man holds the World Aviation Record for ?speed over a recognized course? following a fast flight from St. Joseph, Missouri to Cahokia, Illinois in his single-engine plane on the Fourth of July.

Brian Kissinger, a two-time brain cancer survivor, will have the record certified by the National Aeronautic Association and the Federation Aeronautique Internationale over the next few weeks after final reviews are completed.

Kissinger flew from the St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia at 6:35 a.m. CT and flew to St. Joseph. After refueling, he left St. Joseph at 10:02 a.m. and landed back in Cahokia at 12:14 a.m., a record-setting time of 2 hours 12 minutes.

The flight helped to raise money for The Joseph Center in East St. Louis, a charity helping homeless veterans by giving them a place to live while they get back on their feet. Kissinger, a veteran himself, retired from the Air Force after being diagnosed with brain cancer. He survived the ordeal, only to be diagnosed a second time just a few years ago.

Brian Kissinger?s plane, an experimental Sonerai II aircraft, will be on display July 6 and July 7 at Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The park is located at 185 W. Trendley Avenue in East St. Louis.
